VISIT OF CONSUL GENERAL OF GERMANY, DR. TILO KLINNER

The Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany to Pakistan, Dr. Tilo Klinner visited Memon Industrial and Technical Institute on Saturday, 19th November, 2011. He was accompanied by Mrs. Nasreen Jaleel, Ex-Naib Nazima, CDGK and Mr. Abdul Rashid Godil, MNA.

The guests were received by Mr. Pir Muhammad A. Kaliya (Secretary General, WMO), Mr. Shoaib Ismail Mangroria (Vice President, WMO), Mr. H.M. Shahzad (Assistant Secretary General, WMO & Chairman, MITI), Mr. Abdul Rashid Godil (MNA and Vice Chairman, MITI) and Mr. Shahab Hasan (COO MITI).

The visitors were taken around the Boys’ and Women’s Section of the Institute and shown the facilities. Dr. Klinner was appreciative of the excellent facilities provided for the students and the work being done at MITI and the ideals on MITI was established by WMO.

Later during the briefing, he was apprised of the details about the Institute and the various technical & vocational courses being offered, the number of students, the management structure, etc.

Giving his views about the visit, Dr. Klinner commented that in his opinion the training period of 3 to 4 months was rather short. However, he said that the Government of Germany is actively involved with developing countries including Pakistan in the field of education. He said he would recommend to the Government of Germany and the German Companies having network in Pakistan to assist MITI in developing various technical courses to the level of Diploma.

He emphasized that there was a need to have courses of longer duration, at least Diploma Programs, so that the qualified students get the opportunity of lucrative jobs in Germany and other European countries.

Mr. Pir Muhammad A. Kaliya stated that MITI was ready have joint-ventures with NGOs and Vocational Institutions of Germany. He further stated that WMO’s future program is to convert this Institute into a Technical University in due course of time. Dr. Klinner said he had already earmarked 10 programs for collaboration in Pakistan and he proposed to start two such pilot projects in MITI initially. He said there would be a meeting of the German Pakistan Business Forum in January 2012 to finalize the project. He was of the view that by middle of 2012 this project could get under way.

Subject: Press Release - WMO Delegate meets President Asif Ali Zardari in Islamabad, Pakistan

Islamabad April 9, 2011


President Asif Ali Zardari has said that philanthropists and community based organizations have an important role to play in national development and government has introduced such policies which support their activities.

This he said while meeting a delegation of World Memon Organization (WMO) led by President WMO Abdul Sattar Dada. Other members of delegation included Sir Iqbal Sacranie OBE, Amir Amin Kothawala, Pir Muhammad A. Kaliya, Hussain Lawai, Shoaib Ismail Mangroria, H.M. Shahzad, Feizul Ayob, Sayed Hoosen Mia, Aqeel Karim Dhedhi, Arif Habib, Dr. Haroon Ahmed Gutta, Abdul Ghaffar Usman and Muhammad Amin Chappal

Secretary General Salman Farouqi, Secretary Malik Asif Hayat and Zaid Usman Additional Secretary were also present in the meeting.

Talking to the members of the delegation the President said that the efforts of WMO to alleviate the sufferings of the indigent and under privileged members of Memon community was most commendable. He expressed the hope that they will extendable their activities to other parts of the country.

President Zardari also thanked WMO for their generous support during recent floods which caused unprecedented devastation and stressed the need for their active participation in reconstruction phase.

President WMO Abdul Sattar Dada thanked the President for the meeting and briefed the President about various activities of the Organization in spheres of Education, Health and Micro-finance and also elaborated on future plans. He also thanked the President for government support and assured that WMO would take steps in light of advice by the President on enhancement of scope of activities.
